My reference experience covers a range of libraries. On the academic level I performed as an Adjunct Librarian answering reference questions for both students and faculty at a busy reference desk using an online chat service, telephone, as well as direct person to person. Service to patrons required extensive knowledge of online databases and Boolean search strategies for several disciplines. Assistance also required proficiency in literary criticism resources, Microsoft applications, and bibliographic standards. I also have served as a Library Assistant in a digital library handling student, faculty, and scholarly inquiries in the areas of Art History, digital technology, print resources, and library resources to name a few, including presentation technologies such as ARTstor’s Offline Image Viewer (OIV), Microsoft PowerPoint, and other Web resources. Reference and database searching were valuable resources provided to students and faculty.
In public library ventures, as a reference librarian I provided reference services for both young adults performing research and adults, and offered recommendations based on current best-seller lists. I also collaborated on a collection weeding process and rendered suggestions for collection withdrawal.
